Syria Relief

Over 11 years of conflict have displaced millions of Syrians, with families forced to leave their homes and rebuild their lives in incredibly difficult conditions. Syria Relief and Action for Humanity commissioned Flow Creative to create animated films that could raise awareness, inspire empathy, and drive fundraising efforts.

Two films were created several years apart — each telling a different but connected story. The first introduced the scale of the crisis and the urgent humanitarian needs, while the second followed Ali, a young Syrian boy, whose family had been displaced by the war. Both films balanced the gravity of the situation with a message of hope, showing how the charities’ work is helping rebuild homes, villages, and communities.

Role

As part of the Flow Creative animation team, I contributed to character animation across both films.

My focus was on bringing warmth, movement, and emotion into the characters, ensuring that even in a stylized format, the humanity of their experiences came through.

Approach

The films adopted a layered, textured artwork style — rich in color and inspired by Syrian culture. This handcrafted aesthetic gave the visuals both gravity and optimism, allowing the stories to resonate with honesty and hope.

As part of the animation team at Flow Creative, my role centered on creating believable, emotive character movement that helped audiences connect with the lived experiences of Syrian families.

On the first film, my focus was on morphing and seamless scene transitions, ensuring the story flowed with clarity and impact.

In the second film, I concentrated on secondary characters and on the body mechanics of the main character, crafting movement that captured his vulnerability and resilience.
